For The Prawns
We’re using raw king prawns for this recipe, but you can also substitute cooked prawns and just reduce the frying time by 2 minutes, so they’re heated through and infused with the garlic. You can also use frozen prawns in this recipe, as buying frozen tends to be cheaper, just make sure they’re thoroughly defrosted before use.

About the Spice
You can adjust the spice level of this recipe to your own tastes by increasing or decreasing the amount of chili. One fresh chopped red chili usually works well, but if you like it hotter just add an extra chili or some dried chili flakes to get the spice level just right. If opting for fresh chilis make sure you remove the seeds and chop it finely – or you can wiz the sauce in a blender to make sure it’s nice and smooth.
Method
- Start by adding the 2 garlic cloves (finely chopped), chopped chili and oil to a saucepan and cook for 2 minutes until the garlic is just starting to brown.
- Add the tinned tomatoes and sundried tomatoes to a blender and blend until smooth – if you don’t have a blender just chop your sundried tomatoes finely.
- Add the tinned tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, and lemon zest to the garlic and chili and simmer on a medium heat for 15 minutes. Taste the sauce to check the spice level now, if it’s not hot enough add in an extra chopped chili or some dried chili flakes.
- While the sauce is simmering, add the spaghetti to a new pan, add boiling water and boil for 10 minutes.
- While the spaghetti cooks, add your prawns to a frying pan and heat with 1 tbs of olive oil, and one finely chopped garlic clove, paprika, sliced cherry tomatoes and a little lemon zest . Fry for 6 minutes on a medium high heat until the prawns are cooked through and the tomatoes are softened.
- Drain the spaghetti and return to the pan. Pour over your sauce and stir well. You can mix in the zesty prawns now too, or add these on top of each plate to serve.
